“Rules Don’t Apply” star Lily Collins is proud of her dad, “Another Day in Paradise” singer Phil Collins, and joined his many fans in celebrating his 66th birthday on Jan. 30.

On her Instagram account, the actress posted an adorable throwback photo of her dad and her younger self gazing at each other, replete with a birthday cake in front of them. She then thanked her father for inspiring her to “tell stories, pursue my dreams, and live my life [unfiltered].”

Meanwhile, Collins will next star in the 2017 Sundance Film Festival entry “To The Bone,” which is about a teenager named Ellen suffering from an eating disorder.

Collins told IMDb Studio that she used to suffer from eating disorders like her character, so the role really hit close to home. “This was definitely a more dramatic role for me, I suffered with eating disorders when I was a teenager as well,” she said. “I wrote a book last year and I wrote my chapter on my experiences a week before I got Marti’s script and it was like the universe putting these things in my sphere to help me face, kind of dead on, a fear that I used to have. And, a way to explain it as someone who’s gone through it and to open up a topic that is considered quite taboo with young people nowadays, male, female, and to really start a conversation.”

For the role, Collins sought the help of a nutritionist to lose weight. But the physical transformation as Ellen was only half the battle for the young actress. “It caused me to have to emotionally go there, but in a way that was the most safe, healthy way possible with a nutritionist, and really to physically go there but also emotionally and it did require a different set of emotional skills, to kind of go back in time for me, with you know, my experiences,” the actress explained.

“To the Bone” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 22.
