  • 'Mario' classic games are reportedly coming to Nintendo Switch
  • 'Super Mario' is set to celebrate its 35th year anniversary this 2020
  • Nintendo, however, refuses to comment on the reports

It looks like Nintendo Switch owners are in for more treat this 2020, that is if recent rumors are to be believed.

According to recent reports, Nintendo is planning to release new and remastered “Mario” games in time for the celebration of the popular character’s 35th anniversary. The company last celebrated a Mario anniversary in 2015, which is its 30th year.

Per Video Game Chronicles, Mario’s back catalog will be remastered and released for Switch this year – including the 1997 Super Mario 64, 2002 Super Mario Sunshine and 2007 Super Mario Galaxy.

Aside from the classic games, there are reported plans to launch several Mario titles, highlighted by a new installment of the Paper Mario series and a Deluxe version of the Super Mario 3D World that was released in 2013 on Wii U.

Moreover, as reported by Eurogamer, the Deluxe iteration of the Super Mario 3D World will “include an array of new levels” that are expected to breathe a new life to the classic favorite.

On the other hand, in a different report by VentureBeat, it was revealed that the remasters of the Mario games could come as a bundle – much like the Super Mario All-Stars 2. However, the report noted that 3D World might come as a separate release.

The publication isn’t entirely ruling out a separate release for all the Mario titles though, especially with Nintendo also releasing Zelda remasters differently instead of just one compilation.

Unfortunately, Nintendo refuses to react or comment on the rumors. Nonetheless, fans may not have to wait for long since it is likely that the company is gearing up for a different reveal after its reported Super Mario 35th Anniversary plan at E3 in June has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In related news, Nintendo recently released a Mini Direct video announcing its planned game launches for the year. Among the lineup, popular 2K Games such as BioShock, Borderlands and XCOM are included in the lineup that will get Switch ports by May 29th.

It remains to be seen what Nintendo will do in the coming months, but it certainly looks like they have big things in mind for 2020. Fortunately for them, Nintendo Switch is selling out recently as more and more people lean on gaming amid the coronavirus-forced quarantines and lockdowns.
