A rumor about the Galaxy Note 8 has surfaced, which suggests that the device may continue with 4GB of RAM on its base model. The device may also come in a special Emperor Edition, which may include 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, according to Weibo tech informant Ice Universe.

Reports originally suggested this rumored Emperor Edition Galaxy Note 8 might include 8GB of RAM, but that capacity has now been indicated as 6GB of RAM. If true, this model may be a limited release edition available in select markets. If the model won’t be available globally it will be likely the base model Galaxy Note 8 may feature 4GB of RAM, similar to older models, such as the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 5. Samsung originally introduced 4GB of RAM on the Galaxy Note 5 in 2015.

While Samsung has devices featuring 6GB of RAM, such as the Galaxy C9 Pro, such capacities have not yet made it to the company’s premium line. IBTimes previously speculated that Samsung might be using the Galaxy C9 Pro as a test bed for its 6GB of RAM capacity before deploying it on more prominent devices.

The Galaxy TabPro S tablet was the first Samsung product to feature USB-C before it was introduced on the Galaxy Note 7. Devices such as the Galaxy A7 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2016) and Galaxy A3 (2016) featured expandable storage on a glass-and-metal unibody design before it was introduced on the Galaxy S7.

Some reports have suggested Samsung might introduce 6GB of RAM as the base model for the Galaxy Note 8. The rumors surfaced after Samsung introduced a model of the Galaxy S8+ with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage for Asian markets, which appeared to be another test bed before introducing such capacities to the global market.

If true it may not be the RAM that makes the Galaxy Note 8 Emperor Edition special but rather its internal storage. Samsung currently includes 64GB of internal storage as its base model of the Galaxy S8 after introducing that storage capacity on the Galaxy Note 7. However, the manufacturer has yet to have a smartphone featuring 256GB of internal storage. While testing out a 6GB RAM and 256GB internal storage model Galaxy Note 8 model, there may also be a 6GB and 128GB internal storage model, which may be available in the U.S. with a price tag over $1000.
