  • Android handsets are highly customizable
  • Samsung's latest devices are very customizable
  • Here are a few things that users can do to improve the Galaxy S20 user experience

Samsung's Galaxy S20 could be the best smartphone users will have, if only they knew how to customize it well. Android smartphones are known to be highly customizable, and Samsung's handsets are right there are the top for this kind of feature.

That said, here are some ways the Galaxy S20's customizability can improve the user experience for any consumer.

Users can choose what keyboard to use

Samsung's handsets come with a virtual keyboard that, while functional and enough for many tasks, “is just really, really bad” according to Android Police. That said, it's best to switch to Google's keyboard instead. Users can simply go to the Play Store, download and install Gboard then use it when ready.

Use 120Hz screen refresh rate

The Galaxy S20 features a display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. This results in better graphics all the time. The thing is, the display is set to use 60Hz refresh rate by default, which means users won't see the difference between this handset and older devices fresh out of the box. Users should set the refresh rate to 120Hz via Settings for this to work.

Use volume keys for media

While other handsets normally use the volume rocker at the side of the phone to control volume during media playback, Samsung's Galaxy S20 doesn't by default. Users can set this up by pressing a volume rocker button (either up or down), tap on the drop-down arrow on the sound menu, then set Use Volume Keys for Media to on.

Rearrange apps alphabetically

It's easier to look for apps when they're arranged in alphabetical order. Samsung, however, prefers to arrange apps in the order that they were installed on the device. Those who want to arrange apps alphabetically can do so by opening the app drawer, tapping on the three dots located at the upper right part of the screen, tap on Sort then look for the option that allows for alphabetical order.

Stop using the Bixby key for Bixby

A quick Google search reveals that not a lot of people like to use Bixby. That said, it's quite confusing why Samsung equipped the Galaxy S20 with a Bixby key instead of a power button. Thankfully, the Bixby key can be reassigned to work as a power button that allows users to turn the device off after pressing and holding.

Users can do this by dragging the notification shade down, tapping on the power button, then tapping on “Side key settings” at the bottom. Once there, users should look for the Press and hold function, then toggle that to open the power menu instead of launching Bixby.
