Samsung is the first tech company to introduce the first-ever foldable smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The company is now preparing for its upcoming event in Feb., where it is expected to launch the Galaxy S20 series along with the Galaxy Z Flip. Based on the leaks and rumors circulating online, the Galaxy Z Flip is shaping to be a foldable smartphone far different from its predecessor.

Galaxy Z Flip's Design Element

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is going to be the first foldable smartphone to use an ultra-thin glass display. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, which uses a delicate plastic panel, the Ultra Thin Glass display (UTG) could bend in half. It is a promising design element that could perhaps all the issues encountered by the initial review units of the Galaxy Fold.

It is strong enough to shield the electronic components under and thin enough to bend without breaking. Earlier leaks claimed that the Ultra Thin Glass is as thick as a strand of human hair. Another major difference that the upcoming foldable smartphone has over its predecessor is on the way it folds and opens.

Unlike the Galaxy Fold that folds horizontally, the Galaxy Z Flip folds vertically like a clamshell similar to the Motorola Razr. It comes with a Hideaway Hinge that could help dust from getting into the phone. Earlier reports suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip is smaller compared to its predecessor.

Specs And Features

Based on earlier rumors, the Galaxy Z Flip would feature a 6.7-inch OLED display with an FHD+ pixel screen resolution of 2636 x 1080. The other display is a 1.06-inch external screen with a 300 x 116-pixel screen resolution. Rumors also claim that it might sport a couple of 12 MP rear cameras and a 10 MP front-facing camera.

The Galaxy Z Flip would pack a couple of batteries, one of which is a 900 mAh and 3,300 mAh. A recent leak on Twitter claims that it would support 12W wireless charging. Additionally, the device would house Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC along with 8GB RAM and 256 GB storage.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip reportedly would retail at $1,400 and might be exclusive to AT&T, as per tipster Max Weinbach. It might officially unveil on Feb. 14, 2020.
