A recent market prediction by Gartner suggests that 5G smartphones will boost the overall industry in terms of sales and shipments in 2020. Smartphone makers are anticipated to launch their own smartphones with 5G support this year at various price points. Based on a recent leak, it seems that Motorola is also planning to release the Motorola Razr 5G variant this year.

The latest report comes from the Chinese blog site BlogOfMobile via Richard Quandt. The company announced that it would release a new Motorola Razr 5G variant, reveals the blog site. The device would be manufactured at Lenovo's facility in Wuhan, China.

Moreover, the site claims that the Motorola Razr 5G variant would be unveiled at the 3rd China Industrial Design Exhibition at the Wuhan International Expo Center. Roland Quandt says that the upcoming 5G variant might arrive this year. While the site does not reveal the specs and features of the Motorola Razr 5G variant, it is likely that it would sport some changes from its non-5G model.

Motorola Razr 5G Possible Specs

Because the upcoming variant supports 5G wireless network connectivity, it would house a different chipset. The most likely choice could be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G. However, there is a possibility that Motorola might use Samsung' Exynos 980 or MediaTek Dimensity 1000L.

Aside from a different SoC, the Motorola Razr 5G might have a bigger battery pack. The standard Motorola Razr features a meager 2510mAh capacity battery. Considering that smartphones with 5G support drain the battery fast, this battery would definitely leave the phone attached to a charger for the entire day.

Aside from these possible changes in specs, the upcoming Motorola Razr variant might also retail at a higher price because of the presence of 5G support. It is not yet clear if the Motorola Razr 5G would release in other countries or if the company would make it exclusively available in China. Meanwhile, the much-awaited Motorola Razr, which was postponed last Nov. 2019, is finally arriving on Feb. 6, 2020.

It retails at $1,500 and would be exclusive to Verizon in the US and EE in the UK, which is currently starting to take pre-orders.
