Sara Evans’ estranged husband Jay Barker has been arrested for allegedly attempting to hit the singer with his car. The former NFL player was charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the incident that took place Saturday morning in Nashville.

The police report states that the incident occurred after Evans left a party in their neighborhood on Norwood Drive in Nashville. She was reportedly hitching a ride with a friend when she saw Barker’s vehicle parked on her driveway. The singer then spotted her ex “backing up his vehicle at a high rate of speed attempting to hit them but missed.”

Barker allegedly left before Evans could call the police, who arrived at the scene at 1:30 a.m. local time. The affidavit reveals that Barker eventually came back, where he spoke with authorities and was ultimately arrested. The report also says that according to Evans and another witness, Barker was intentionally trying to bump into the car they were riding prior to his arrest.

Barker was placed on a 12-hour domestic violence hold at Davidson County Jail in Tennessee. He was released on bond, which was set at $10,000, at 7:30 p.m. local time on Saturday.

Evans and Barker tied the knot in 2008 after the singer filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years, Craig Schelske. However, they eventually separated.

Evans is an American country singer and songwriter with eight studio albums under her belt, including “Three Chords and the Truth,” “Restless,” “Real Fine Place,” “Slow Me Down” and “Copy That.”

Meanwhile, Barker is a retired professional American football quarterback and a Birmingham radio personality. He is currently one of the hosts of the 100.9 FM radio show, “The Jay Barker Show,” which started airing in 2018, and an analyst for ESPN Radio.
