Sarah Ferguson recently revealed her secret to surviving the pressure of public life.

In the article she wrote for the Evening Standard (via Express), the mom of two said her charity work with suffering children saved her and made her become a better mother to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Ferguson also said that Children in Crisis, the charity she put up 25 years ago, is like her third child.

“As I look back over the work of the last 25 years, I’m so grateful to everyone that has supported us and so proud of the fact that we have defied the odds, and kept the charity going all these years. It has certainly made me a better mother to my daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, giving me a sense of perspective and allowing me to encourage them to use the platform they have to get involved in charity work,” she wrote.

“It has probably saved my life, too, by giving me purpose through hard times. As my grandmother always said, ‘When you feel bad about yourself, go out there and do something for somebody else,’” she added.

Ferguson previously announced the merging of Children in Crisis and Street Child and said that she will also be a patron for the latter. Her two daughters will serve as ambassadors. The goal of the partnership is to “pack a bigger punch and achieve bigger goals – and of course be more efficient too, meaning more of our resources flow to the children that need our help.”

Last week, Princess Eugenie praised her mom following the merging. On her social media account, the 28-year-old princess congratulated Ferguson and said she’s happy to see both charities coming together for a common cause.

In related news, Francesca Specter, a journalist for Express, claimed that Ferguson has been building up her charitable image in the months leading up to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding.
