A student was arrested after stabbing a female teacher during class change at a Georgia middle school Monday afternoon. The eighth-grader at Trickum Middle School in Lilburn called the teacher over to his desk during a class change and stabbed her in the chest with an eight-inch butcher knife.

The student was immediately apprehended by a school resource officer. The teacher was rushed to a nearby hospital and the school was placed on lockdown. Sloan Roach, spokeswoman for the Gwinnett County Public School, said the student also grabbed a female student and held her before the school resource officer arrived and disarmed him. No one else was hurt in the attack.

Roach said the student was facing disciplinary action from the school district. He was also charged with aggravated assault and having a weapon on school grounds, Gwinnett Daily Post reported.

According to a letter sent to parents by principal Ryan Queen, the incident took place during class change in a language arts classroom. The teacher was conscious and talking while being taken to the hospital. Despite the school being put under a temporary lock down, students were not dismissed early.

Channel 2 spoke to a student who helped stop the teacher's bleeding.

"I saw that she was bleeding, so I looked over and took off my jacket and put it where she was bleeding," Mason Watler said, adding that the suspect then turned on another student. "He pulled over another student and had the knife by her face. He said that if anybody was videoing it, he was gonna kill her," he said.

He then asked everybody to leave the classroom. A student resource officer was called and the student was taken into custody.

Watler added the 13-year-old suspect had told him in the past that he wanted to kill someone.

"I probably should have reported what he said so he would be able to talk to a counselor or something," Watler said.

The reason for the stabbing was not known. The principal said more information would be released as it was made available.

The names of the teacher and student were not been revealed.

In a similar incident in February, a student at a New Jersey School was charged with bringing a loaded gun to class. School authorities notified police after having a doubt that the student may have had a weapon on school grounds. The police arrived and removed the student from the class. A loaded 9mm handgun was found in his bag during a warranted search. The boy was charged with unlawful possession and possession for an unlawful purpose.
