An experienced whale trainer that was killed yesterday by one of the Orcas likely died from traumatic injuries and drowning, the Orange County Medical Examiner said, according to the Associated Press.

Dawn Brancheau, 40, died from multiple traumatic injuries and drowning after the killer whale pulled her into a pool, the office said, according to the agency.

Other trainers at the park had to isolate the whale into a smaller pool and lift it out from the water with a platform to free Brancheau from its jaws, officials said.

The cause of the attack is yet unknown but a curator of zoological operations at SeaWorld Orlando said the whale reacted to the swing of its trainer's ponytail.
