A baby albino turtle with an incredibly rare condition will give you "hope."

Aptly named Hope, the albino pinkbelly sideneck turtle was born with her heart outside her body, according to Caters New Agency. And even with her heart beating outside of her shell, the albino baby turtle has beaten the odds and survived. This condition is called ectopia cordis among humans and is found in about one in 126,000 births. However, there is no name for this life-threatening genetic defect in veterinary medicine.

New Jersey resident Michael Aquilina has been keeping people updated about his incredible turtle on Instagram. Hope's owner previously shared a video of the little turtle's underbelly, showing her exposed heart beating just outside her shell.

A turtle breeder and friend named Gerard, who apparently felt that Aquilina had the passion and experience to provide the little turtle the happiest life possible, gave Hope to him to raise. Aquilina received the baby turtle in November 2018, and she has been growing stronger in his home with each passing day.

Aquilina's Instagram, under the handle AquaMike, also has several videos and photos of Hope eating, lounging in her private tank and posing for the camera.

“Hope has impacted my life in so many ways it actually makes me emotional,” Aquilina said via Daily Mail. "She's so small and so fragile, the most delicate thing but she's fearless. People can see that and she's got so many people rooting for her around the world."

He added that the baby turtle gives him hope and is also spreading hope to other people. The little creature also changed his life for the better over the past few months since he started raising her.

Hope's case, however, is so unique that Aquilina has no established guide to follow when taking care of her, with the animal owner saying he only uses "common sense." He apparently has to keep Hope away from the other turtles and give her extra care so she would continue to thrive.

Aside from the albino baby turtle, Aquilina is also taking care of many other turtles, photos of which he has also shared on Instagram.
