KEY POINTS

  • Jorge Sampaoli wants Sevilla to acquire Bryan Gil on loan to fill in their vacant left-winger position
  • The player may get to fulfill his potential getting more minutes with another team
  • Sampaoli has been known to work well with young players and bring out the best in them

Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli is reportedly urging the Los Nervionenses management to sign winger Bryan Gil on loan in the January transfer window.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Sevilla is in dire need of help, having won just two of their 14 games in the La Liga table.

They are expected to look at all options in the January transfer window, and it appears Gil is one of the curious targets he has in mind.

Ironically, a move to Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán could make sense for the Spanish winger considering he has not gotten the right breaks with the Spurs.

The 21-year-old winger was acquired in a swap-plus-cash deal before the start of last season, costing them £21 million ($25.32 million) plus Erik Lamela, per the report from Sky Sports.

However, the move did not produce dividends with the Spaniard not getting enough playing time.

Hence, a loan spell to Sevilla could provide him a fresh start, similar to last season when he was loaned to Eibar.

It was added that Samapoili had already personally asked for Gil, someone who knows Sevilla very well having joined the club's academy from Barbate when he was just 11.

Gil moved up the ranks and ended up moving to Tottenham last year.

The push is also timely since Sevilla requires a left winger. Apparently, Sampaoili feels that Gil is the perfect player to address that void.

Gil is seen as a player with promise, someone who could blossom into an eventual superstar.

As of this writing, he has seen action for only 74 minutes of football across all competitions this season.

It seems Gil has failed to gain the full trust of Antonio Conte to be fielded regularly, and that would deprive him of possibly showing his true potential and that chance could be waiting somewhere else.

A loan spell would be a perfect scenario for Gil and Sevilla to see if the former does have the talent to become a top player in the game one day.

Sampaoli also has a good track record of handling young rising stars, potentially the right guy who can unleash the true talent of Gil while initially out on loan.
