“Mortal Instruments” fans, don't fret! While supporters of the Cassandra Clare book series will have to wait until 2016 until the premiere of the ABC Family adaptation “Shadowhunters,” one network executive is soothing fans by revealing the show is unlikely to disappoint.

According to a report from TVLine, “Shadowhunters” will remain “loyal” to Clare’s books while also adding some fresh twists for TV viewers. “When you’re adapting, you always have to find the balance of being loyal and giving them something new and I think we’ve found a good balance,” ABC Family president Tom Ascheim said of the series.

While fans of the supernatural tale still have several months to wait until the show premieres – it is expected to debut in January 2016— Ascheim teased that the footage he's seen looks promising.

“We’re excited by the dailies,” he said, calling what he has seen so far both "beautiful" and "big."

“Shadowhunters” will follow Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara, "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials"), a teenage girl who joins forces with a group of demon killers after her mother disappears. Like the first novel in Clare’s series, “City of Bones,” Clary will discover that she is not a mere mortal, but descends from a line of Shadowhunters, “human-angel hybrids who hunt down demon,” reads ABC Family’s official synopsis. “Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.”

The show stars Dominic Sherwood (“Vampire Academy") as Clary’s Shadowhunter love interest Jace Wayland and Alberto Rosende (“Blue Boods") as Simon Lewis, her best friend. Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle Lightwood), Matthew Daddario (Alex Lighwood) and Harry Shum Jr. (Magnus Bane) also star.

“Shadowhunters” isn’t the first time Clare’s story has been brought to life. Constantin Film released a feature based on the fantasy books, titled “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” in August 2013. The movie starred Lily Collins as Clary, Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace and Robert Sheehan as Simon.
