New York City police are on the lookout for two men involved in the non-fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man in broad daylight Thursday — which nearly ended with two kids getting shot as well.

Surveillance footage of the incident released to the public by the New York City Police Department's Crime Stoppers division Saturday showed a gun-wielding masked man running toward the victim, identified by the New York Daily News as 24-year-old Hassan Wright, on the sidewalk along Sheridan Avenue in the Bronx at approximately 6:45 p.m.

The masked assailant then discharged his pistol several times at Wright, who was right beside a 10-year-old girl and her 5-year-old little brother, at point-blank range before running away from the scene, the New York Post reported.

Wright was shot three times but was in stable condition, police said. The two young siblings, who were out buying candy at the time of the attack, were not struck by any of the bullets.

According to a police statement, the gunman fled on a scooter that was being operated by the other wanted suspect.

Wright is a suspected gang member, unnamed law enforcement sources told the New York Daily News. His mother, however, told the outlet that Wright has no gang affiliations and that she believes he may have been shot in a case of mistaken identity.

The NYPD released a photo of the alleged masked attacker late Saturday showing him exiting what appeared to be a subway turnstile. His alleged accomplice was also captured on camera.

A week prior to the incident, police said two groups of clashing gunmen exchanged fire on a Bronx street. While no person was injured, two parked vehicles and a nearby house were damaged.

The two groups opened fire at each other on the corner of Matthews and Waring Avenues on June 13, according to police. Nobody was struck in the exchange.

Police also asked for the public's help in identifying and tracking down the shooters.
