Six people were found dead Sunday in a Milwaukee home in what investigators say was a multiple homicide. Milwaukee Police had responded to the home to assist with a welfare check.

Police confirmed Monday that five of the victims were shot. Four of the victims were men and one was a woman. There has been no confirmation as to how the sixth person died.

The ages of three of the male victims are 31, 42 and 43, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted from online data from the medical examiner's office.

Milwaukee Assistant Police Chief Paul Formolo did not disclose information about a suspect or a motive.

"Citizens of our community had concerns with the occupants that resided there and it's a normal call for us to respond to. We do it all the time," Formolo said Sunday at a press conference.

Milwaukee has seen a sharp rise in homicides. The city had a record 197 murders in 2021, breaking the previous record of 190 set in 2020.

"The murders discovered today on a residential block in the heart of our city are horrific. It is important not to feel numbed by the ongoing violence in our community. A horrible crime has again occurred, and it is not a movie or a fictional account. These victims died in our city, in one of our neighborhoods.” Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said.

Johnson says the city will remain “steadfast” to reduce violence by improving law enforcement, community intervention, and a “renewed commitment to prevention.”
