KEY POINTS

  • The First Person Combat Animations Overhaul mod improves “Skyrim's” first-person weapon animations
  • The mod recently received an update for two-handed weapons
  • It is best used in conjunction with other combat mods

As good as the overall vanilla “Skyrim” experience is, it still has a lot of weak points. Combat in “Skyrim” is serviceable, but many fans agree that it could be better. The game has received countless combat-oriented mods since “Skyrim’s” release a decade ago, but even now, it still receives some new mods that make fighting all the more interesting.

The First Person Combat Animations Overhaul mod by rookie modder ShoryukenBruh gives the first person animations in “Skyrim” a much-needed overhaul. The mod revamps the animations of melee weapons and puts them up to par with other melee-oriented games like “Dying Light” and “Vermintide 2.”

Every melee weapon in “Skyrim” received a new set of animations that replaces the default ones for light attacks, power attacks, blocking and bashing. A recent update for the mod introduced new animations for two-handed Greatswords, Greataxes and Warhammers.

The mod makes each hit with melee weapons feel more satisfying compared to the basic swinging animations in the normal game settings. “Skyrim” players will be able to feel each impact as their weapons make contact with enemies thanks to the animation changes.

It also features new idle animations, including unique animations for daggers and dual daggers when using stealth.

This mod is also surprisingly light. It doesn’t require any scripts, ESP/ESL files, Nemesis or FNIS. The only requirement for the mod is the Dynamic Animation Replacer mod and preferably a mod loader. This means that the mod won’t interfere with mod loading orders or take too much of a computer’s resources.

Keep in mind that this “Skyrim” mod will only change animations and not much else. It’s compatible with many custom weapons so long as they use vanilla animations. Many other combat mods like Wildcat, Ultimate Combat and either TK’s Hitstop or zxlice’s scriptless hitstop mods work perfectly with this mod, allowing players to combine these refined animations with their preferred combat mods.

For the best first person combat experience, it’s recommended to pair this mod with a hitstop mod, the Enhanced First Person Parry Animations mod, the Flinching mod and a difficulty and gameplay modifier of choice.

The First Person Combat Animations Overhaul mod is the perfect choice for players who want a more immersive “Skyrim” experience.
