Police are once again under the microscope after a viral video showed a violent altercation with a black mother at a Texas apartment complex.

The incident occurred late Monday night when a patrol officer confronted a 44-year-old woman outside an apartment complex in Baytown, a city located outside of Houston. The officer saw the woman and recognized her from previous altercations.

She also had several outstanding warrants with the police, so the officer went to arrest her.

According to witnesses, a struggle ensued between the officer and woman when he tried to arrest her, prompting him to pull out his stun gun. However, the woman allegedly gained control of the stun gun and shot the officer with it. The officer pulled out his gun in response.

As the officer had his gun pointed out, the woman began screaming that she was pregnant multiple times before being shot. Several witnesses told CBS affiliate KHOU11 that they heard multiple gunshots go off, with one even catching it on video. The video was quickly loaded up to social media and spread like wildfire across Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.

Emergency personnel tried to treat the woman but she died overnight from gunshot wounds.

The officer has been put on paid administrative leave while investigators look into the incident. Investigators are also looking for the individual who recorded the video to speak with them.

The altercation has also sparked massive uproar on Twitter for the perceived use of excessive force.
