Netflix left Sofia Vergara’s fans shocked on Wednesday after the streaming service posted a photo on Twitter of the actress in character as the cocaine godmother Griselda Blanco.

The “Modern Family” alum is set to portray the Colombian drug boss who was known by several nicknames, including the Black Widow, Cocaine Godmother, and La Madrina.

Netflix shared a photo of Vergara in a scene from “Griselda” with wearing toned-down makeup, a patterned blouse, and holding a cigarette.

Blanco was one of the wealthiest drug bosses who was feared over her violent business tactics and known for inventing drive-by shootings on motorbikes. Blanco was assassinated in 2012 by the motorbike method she created.

Last year, Vergara shared her excitement over telling Blanco’s story onscreen. “Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character whose ruthless but ingenious tactics allowed her to rule a billion-dollar empire years before many of the most notorious male kingpins we know so much about,” Vergara said in a statement at the time.

“We are thrilled to have found the perfect partners in Eric [Newman], Andrés [Baiz] and Netflix to help us bring this story of her life to the screen.”

Newman will serve as the writer and executive producer on the project while Baiz has been tapped to direct.

Netflix recently added 10 additional cast members to “Griselda,” including Diego Trujillo, Alberto Guerra, Vanessa Ferlito, Alberto Ammann, Christian Tappan, and Paulina Davila.

“Griselda” will be made up of six 50-minute episodes. Netflix has not announced a release date for the upcoming series.
