Spotify today announced the launch of Spotify Lite, the lighter version of the usual music-streaming app that people have always known. The space-conserving counterpart comes with ten-times lower storage consumption and less data requirement compared to the usual Spotify.

Market

Available on Google Play, Spotify Lite will be out in 36 markets across the globe. The lighter version of the Android app will be offered in India, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Features

Spotify Lite is perfect for people living in places with slow internet connections. They can access to the songs they love because of the optimization brought about by Spotify Lite.

Another special feature of the lighter Spotify is the notification when the user pre-set data limit has been consumed or is in danger of being exceeded. A regular Spotify app requires 100MB to function regularly while the Spotify Lite only needs 10 MB.

Difference

There is not much difference between the regular Spotify and Spotify Lite. Users can expect almost the same music streaming experience between the two.

Spotify Lite, which is said to complement the original Spotify, also has a modified User Interface. The list of favorites will be found instead of having the usual libraries like in the regular counterpart.

Device Requirement

Older device holders may take advantage of the Spotify Lite launch as it is designed to be suitable on any kind of device. Users, however, must make sure that their devices are running not lower than Android version 4.3.

Kalle Persson, Spotify's senior product manager, released a statement stating that Spotify Lite is a product of the gathered feedback from users around the world. He further added that Spotify Lite allows the world’s best music experience to be available to millions around the world even in places that phone storage and bandwidth are limited.

Spotify Lite shall join the family of lighter apps such as Facebook Lite, Twitter Lite and Skype Lite for devices with lower storage space and slower internet connections.
