"Suicide Squad" star Joel Kinnaman, who is currently under investigation for rape, has downplayed the accusation and claimed an obsessed woman is just trying to exact revenge against him over a restraining order.

Swedish authorities announced Wednesday that they are looking into the allegation.

"The prosecutor got the case today and has hardly been able to look at it. She has said there is a need for further investigative matters before she can make a decision," E! News quoted a spokesperson working with the prosecutor.

However, according to Kinnaman's legal team, the Swedish model only made the rape claim after the actor got in touch with the police and obtained a restraining order against her.

Last week, Kinnaman filed an extortion complaint against the model named Gabriella Magnusson, who goes by Bella Davis, and got a restraining order against her in Los Angeles.

"It appears that after learning of the restraining order, she filed her complaint," the actor's attorney Patricia Glaser said as per the New York Post. "The court papers that Mr. Kinnaman filed stated, among other things, that Ms. Davis threatened to publicize false information about Mr. Kinnaman – including that he had sex with her against her will – unless he capitulated to her monetary and other demands, which included Hollywood introductions, a work visa sponsorship, a blue verification checkmark on Instagram, and more."

Glaser further noted that the actor will cooperate with the police to clear his name.

Kinnaman took to Instagram Friday to explain his decision to request a restraining order against Davis and open up about having a romantic, consensual relationship with her in 2018 when he was still single. The post was reportedly created before the Swedish model filed her report.

According to the actor, he met Davis in November 2018 and had sex with her. He saw her again a month later then slept with her. They did not spend the night together and because of that, he received a text from the model.

"She texted me that she was bothered that I had not asked her to spend the night and that I did not check with her to make sure she made it home safely," Kinnaman wrote.

The actor also claimed the model had tried to connect with him again in 2019 and 2020. However, he "did not respond" to her as he was already in a relationship. Then, after "increasingly obsessive communication" with Davis, the actor decided to "cut off all communications with her."

Reacting to Kinnaman's statement, Davis told E! News that the actor "should have an Oscar for how he's writing and acting." The model also said she had never threatened him or asked for money.

Kinnaman got engaged to 25-year-old Swedish model Kelly Gale in January. The couple announced their engagement in an Instagram post.
