It has been a week since the tragic passing of NBA Legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna Bryant. The father and daughter were with seven other people who also lost their lives in the helicopter accident.

The horrible loss shocked the world as people put up tributes, memorials and shrines to pay their respects. All of the sports, different leagues and various organizations were all in unison as they mourned the life of the Laker legend.

Each one had a specific way of honoring the Black Mamba. These range from a 24-second violation, a reference to the Purple or Gold or just about anything that Kobe Bryant influenced.

The NFL Super Bowl LIV also ensured that they honored the NBA great, as he was highly influential in their league as well. As reported by The Ringer, both teams participating in the biggest game of the year, the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas Chiefs, found out of the tragic news when they were on their way to Miami.

Although the news was immensely overwhelming, both teams understand what Kobe Bryant would have wanted for them to do: To perform and give it their best. “I’m gonna go out there and try to play some dominating ball just like he wanted. The Mamba Mentality still lives on,” said San Francisco 49 cornerback Richard Sherman.

Prior to kick-off, both teams stood on their respective 24-yard lines and had a moment of silence for the five-time NBA champion. They also included Pro Football Hall of Fame member Chris Doleman who recently passed away last January 28, 2020.

Their moment of silence was broken immediately as the Kobe chants ensued across the entire stadium.

Kobe Bryant will forever be known as the leader of the LA Lakers. But beyond the basketball court, he will also be remembered as one of the most influential sports icons of the recent generation. He has touched the lives of people beyond the sport with how he treats hard work, dedication and passion for improvement.
