KEY POINTS

  • Mere days after being announced for a Sept. 18 release, "Super Mario 3D All-Stars" is already the second best-selling game on Amazon's list for 2020
  • Nintendo’s declaration that “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” is only available for sale until Mar. 31, 2021 is likely making gamers not want to miss out on getting to this title
  • The top-selling game for the year remains "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" and it remains to be seen if a new challenger can topple it off the top of this list

Do not ever underestimate the power of Mario. Less than a week after “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” was announced for a Sept. 18 release, the game has already become the second best-selling game on Amazon’s best sellers list for games in 2020, GameSpot reports.

A collection that will bring “Super Mario 64,” “Super Mario Sunshine,” and “Super Mario Galaxy” together in one package for the Nintendo Switch, “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” is a large part of the 35th anniversary celebration for “Super Mario Bros.”

Nintendo has already announced a Game & Watch handheld that will allow you to play the original “Super Mario Bros.” as well as the revival of “Super Mario World” from the Wii U for the Switch.

The physical version of “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” has climbed up the Amazon list, which is otherwise occupied by peripherals and digital codes for store credit across the PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo stores. Currently, aside from being the second best-selling game, “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” is also the 14th best-selling product on the Amazon list.

As for reasons why this particular title is already selling like hotcakes, perhaps it is because Nintendo announced that it will only be available for a limited time.

Nintendo’s declaration that “Super Mario 3D All-Stars” is only available for sale until Mar. 31, 2021 is likely making gamers not want to miss out on getting to this title and maximizing it before that date.

To date, the best-selling game on Amazon in 2020 is still “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” yet another exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. The game's physical edition is the 4th best-selling game item, and a digital code for it is the 9th on the list.

With it arriving just as the pandemic forced everyone indoors, the timing was right for “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” to become a worldwide smash.

The curious thing is that aside from wallet codes and peripherals, Nintendo Switch games dominate the top 50 best-sellers on Amazon. The only non-Nintendo game to arrive at present is the PlayStation 4-exclusive “The Last of Us Part II.”

Time will tell if a game like “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” eventually climbs the charts or even cracks the Top 10, let alone beats “Animal Crossing: New Horizons.”

"Super Mario Galaxy" redefined 3D platformers, and we'd love to play a 1080p remaster of both titles on Switch. Nintendo
