Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
The trailer for Season 2, episode 18 of “Supergirl” teases tension between Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and Lena Luthor’s (Katie McGrath) former lover, Jack Spheer (Rahul Kohli). The CW

Lena Luthor’s (Katie McGrath) former lover, Jack Spheer (Rahul Kohli), arrives in National City in Season 2, episode 18 of “Supergirl.” And based on the trailer for the episode, it seems that there’s some tension between Jack and Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist).

During what appears to be a dinner with Lena and Kara, Jack bluntly asks Kara, “Are you trying to get me in your crosshairs, Miss Danvers?” While it’s unclear what exactly prompted Jack to say that to Kara, it appears that the Girl of Steel obtains a video that seemingly connects Jack to the murder of two people.

As previously reported, Jack is a charismatic tech genius who has spent decades working on a medical innovation that will potentially eradicate major illnesses. He goes to National City to talk about his invention to members of the press, including Kara and Snapper (Ian Gomez).

In the comics, Spheer’s invention transformed him into Biomax, a villain who had the power of mind control. It’s unclear, however, whether Kohli’s version of the character will have the same fate on the CW series.

Last month, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed to Entertainment Weekly that episode 18 will also put the spotlight back on Kara as a journalist. “That’s actually been very important to us, especially in the times we now find ourselves living in; we’re one of the few shows on television that actually has a journalist as a lead character,” Kreisberg explained. “In … episode 18, we really get a chance to talk about the importance of journalism, and the importance of journalism ethics, and how important [it is to have] the objective truth be out there now.”

“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 18, titled “Ace Reporter,” airs on Monday, April 24 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
