Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie’s (Floriana Lima) romance is going to be front and center in the upcoming Valentine’s Day episode of “Supergirl.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, Alex is beyond excited to spend her first Valentine’s Day with a girlfriend. Maggie, however, is not keen on the holiday, and that leads to their first real fight as a couple. To make it up to Alex, the police detective recreates a very special night. Although Alex and Maggie’s first real fight is yet to happen, the lovebirds have actually had a few misunderstandings before. In this week’s episode for instance, Maggie was obviously hurt when Alex implied that focusing on their relationship was a “mistake” because she had become complacent in watching out for her sister Kara (Melissa Benoist). But when Alex admitted to Maggie that Kara is actually Supergirl, the police detective understood why the Alex was behaving a little rude to her earlier in the installment.

Fans should expect this kind of dynamic between Alex and Maggie moving forward, because just like any other romance, their relationship isn’t going to be smooth sailing.

“There’s definitely some bumps,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly of the couple’s relationship. “Just because they are together now doesn’t mean it’s going to go smoothly.”

“Alex has never been in this kind of relationship before and she’s going to make some rookie mistakes that they’ll have to get past,” Kreisberg explained. “[Meanwhile,] Maggie has been presented as being the perfect guide for Alex’s journey this season, but Alex is going to learn that Maggie isn’t perfect, which is going to lead to some difficult situations coming down the road.”

“It’s going to be funny, it’s going to be serious, it’s going to be romantic, it’s going to be heartbreaking,” Kreisberg added of the pair’s Season 2 storyline during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter “It’s going to be everything that any relationship that you see on TV, no matter what the gender, should and will be.”

“Supergirl’s” next episode (Season 2, episode 10) airs on Monday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
