Kevin Smith was impressed by Chris Wood’s performance in last night’s Season 2, episode 9 of “Supergirl.” The filmmaker, who directed the installment, was thrilled with the actor’s comedic touches, which he included in some of the scenes in the episode.

“He is a fun and funny guy,” Smith said of Wood, who plays Mon-El on the CW series. “Lots of little comedic touches you see from Mon-El [in the episode] came from Chris’ ideas.”

“I think he should play Fletch,” added Smith, referring to the role of Chevy Chase in the comedy action-thriller film series of the same name directed by Michael Ritchie.

Smith was particularly happy with how Wood delivered the line, “Start the car,” in the episode. In a tweet, Smith wrote that the line was his small contribution to the script of the episode, and because Wood did a good job delivering it, they decided to keep it in the final cut of the installment. “Dude’s legit funny with great comic timing,” Smith said of Wood.

“Supergirl” actress Melissa Benoist recently opened up about what it’s been like working with Wood, and she did say that the actor is her “favorite person to act with on the show.”

“He’s fantastic, talented and funny … so funny, and I think he brings a lot of life to that character,” Benoist, who plays the titular role on the series, said of her co-star during an interview with The Huffington Post on Build Series on Monday, Jan. 23.

“Supergirl’s” next episode airs on Monday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Check out the synopsis and trailer for Season 2, episode 10, titled “We Can Be Heroes,” below:
