What a ride “Supernatural” has been so far! Fans of The CW series have seen hunters Dean and Sam Winchester obliterate a variety of monsters, deal with ghosts, stop an apocalypse and even kill Death himself. With the show heading into its twelfth season, is there an end date for “Supernatural”? Will we say goodbye to the long-running drama soon?

Although we would love the series to continue for as long as possible, “Supernatural” stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, who play Dean and Sam respectively, are thinking about the series finale. The Austin-based actors are right now focusing on crossing the 300-episode milestone, and this episode could serve as a series finale. Right now, the supernatural series has finished airing 241 episodes.

Supernatural” will complete 300 episodes in Season 14, episode 13. The series could do a shortened 13-episode Season 14 (and could be the final season), or choose to make the 300th episode a half-way point of Season 14. Either way, the producers and actors on the show are thinking about the series finale.

“We talked about wanting to be able to know when our end was, and if it was to be, let’s say, 300 episodes, we could tell a 13-episode story,” the show’s executive producer Bob Singer told Entertainment Weekly, “I think it would be bad for this show to just ride off in the sunset without a finale. I think we’ve earned that. I don’t know what that finale is, but we’d certainly like to do one.”

Ackles explained, “I feel like if I ever show up to set and I feel like I don’t care, or if I feel like [Padalecki] doesn’t care, then that’s the canary leaving the mine. To this day, I have not really ever sensed that from myself or him. … They’re paying us to bring that little bit of magic to what they wrote, and I still feel that magic today. The day that I don’t feel that magic will be a very sad day, and I hope that day never comes. I’d like to get to 300 before that day comes."

Padalecki adds, “When we get to 300, I think Ackles and I will think it might be time to say bye. There’s a chance that changes, but we certainly do not take it for granted that we’re going to make it to 300.”

Hopefully, the handsome actors change their mind.

“Supernatural” Season 12 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
