  • Heather Rae Young said no one made her feel she was second-best on purpose
  • Young claimed that it took a while before Christina Hall warmed up to her
  • The "Selling Sunset" star said the kids are "No. 1" to her

Heather Rae Young is getting candid on her feelings about co-parenting her husband Tarek El Moussa's children with his ex-wife, Christina Hall.

Young, 35, who is expecting her first baby with El Moussa, admitted during her appearance on the "Today" show's "The New Rules" series that co-parenting with Hall left her feeling like she was "always second."

The "Selling Sunset" star clarified that "no one ever made [her] feel that way" on purpose but acknowledged that it was likely inevitable.

"I think when your significant other had such a long relationship with the previous spouse, and a lot of love, and it was very public divorce, you're coming into it, and you fall in love with each other, but you always kind of think of the ex," Young explained, Page Six reported.

She went on to claim that it was not easy for Hall, who shares daughter Taylor, 12, and son Brayden, 7, with El Moussa, to accept her into their lives and that it took a while for the "Christina on the Coast" star to warm up to her.

"I kinda had to navigate my own feelings along with falling in love with a man, raising children, getting a whole new family and also filming my own TV shows. It wasn't always perfect," Young continued. "I think she realized how much I love the kids, and they are No. 1 to me over anything. So any drama aside, the kids are the most important thing to all of us."

"Flip or Flop" alums El Moussa and Hall separated in 2016 and finalized their divorce in 2018.

El Moussa started dating Young in 2019, and they tied the knot two years later.

Although things now appear to be much better between Young and Hall when it comes to co-parenting the children, it wasn't always the case.

In May, the two women were spotted engaging in what appeared to be a heated fight during Brayden's soccer game in Newport Beach, California. El Moussa also had a spat with Christina's new husband, Josh Hall.

But they set their differences aside and united when Brayden was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery the following day.

Following the surgery, Christina shared on social media a photo of her son in the hospital and accompanied the post with a message of praise for El Moussa, Young and her spouse Josh.

"Stressful 24 hours but a good reminder of how important teamwork/co-parenting is," she wrote on her Instagram Stories. "We are all under pressure, but when it really matters, we were all there for Brayden doing our part."

Young also shared an update via Instagram at the time alongside more snaps of Brayden.

"[It's] times like these we ban together as a family. It's been a very emotional day, but he is doing well and recovering," Young wrote.

Young and El Moussa's baby is due in early 2023.
