Taylor Swift's upcoming album will include a track inspired by her long-term relationship with her beau Joe Alwyn.

The 32-year-old award-winning musician revealed via Instagram Friday that the 31-year-old British actor inspired the first song on her upcoming "Midnights" album, "Lavender Haze."

The "Lover" singer shared in the video that she first encountered the phrase "Lavender Haze" while watching the hit television series "Mad Men" and later looked it up because it "sounded cool."

"It turns out that it was a common phrase that was used in the '50s, where they would just describe being in love," Swift said, adding that a "Lavender Haze" meant a person is in "that all-encompassing love glow."

She continued, "I guess, theoretically, when you're in the 'Lavender Haze,' you'll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud."

Swift noted that it's something a lot of people have had to deal with, not just public figures, in the era of social media because "if the world finds out you're in love with somebody, they're going to weigh in on it."

Although the singer did not name Alwyn, she referred to their "relationship of six years" and said they've had to "dodge weird rumors" and "tabloid stuff" until they learned to "just ignore it."

"So, this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff," Swift explained, before adding that she hopes her fans will like the track.

Swift and Alwyn were rumored to have met at the 2016 Met Gala. In the same year, they officially started dating following the musician's breakup with ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris.

Since then, Swift and Alwyn have kept their relationship low-key and are seldom spotted together in public.

Swift revealed in an interview with The Guardian in 2019 that she'd rather not talk about her relationship with Alwyn in the media to set a boundary between her personal and professional life.

"I've learned that if I do, people think it's up for discussion, and our relationship isn't up for discussion," she explained to the outlet when asked why she rarely talked about Alwyn.

The singer continued, "If you [The Guardian's Laura Snapes] and I were having a glass of wine right now, we'd be talking about it – but it's just that it goes out into the world. That's where the boundary is, and that's where my life has become manageable. I really want to keep it feeling manageable."

Rumors surfaced in June that Swift and Alwyn have gotten engaged and that their loved ones know about it, but the couple has yet to make an official announcement.

"Midnights" is set to be released on Oct. 21 on various music platforms, including YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music.
