A teenager was arrested in India for allegedly raping and murdering a 9-year-old girl after he admitted to executing the crime to exact revenge on her father.

The unidentified 15-year-old boy, from the city of Kalyan in the western state of Maharashtra, was arrested after the cops found the body of the victim near a railway station Thursday morning. After reviewing the CCTV footage and questioning the residents in the area, the boy was taken into custody based on suspicion of murder.

Upon questioning, he admitted he held a grudge against the girl's father after the duo fought a couple of days ago. The boy claimed he was allegedly assaulted by the man during the incident. To exact revenge on the unidentified man, the boy reportedly kidnapped his daughter, raped her, and slit her throat before dumping her body, the police said, as reported by India Today.

"The accused had a fight with the deceased's father two days ago. The body of the 9-year-old girl was found on the premises of a residential society in the Kalyani West area near the Kalyan railway station in the early hours of Thursday morning. This matter came to light while a case was registered and an investigation was being carried out," the police said, news outlet India Posts English reported.

Investigators have registered a case against the suspect on the charges of sexual assault of a minor. The boy has been shifted to an observation home, while further investigation is underway.

In a similar incident last month, a man in India was arrested for allegedly raping and murdering his unidentified neighbor's 7-year-old daughter to exact revenge on the man for having an alleged affair with his wife. Although the unidentified girl was reported missing on Nov. 17, the brutal crime came to light only after the child's body was discovered in a forested area on Nov. 28. During the investigation, the police identified the suspect as 31-year-old Rajesh Rajak, who reportedly admitted that he had executed the crime as an act of revenge against the child's father over his affair with his wife.
