A teen was electrocuted to death after he slept on his mobile phone while it was on charge. The incident took place in of Chaiyaphum, Thailand, on Friday.

The incident came to light Friday morning when the 18-year-old victim’s uncle entered his room to wake him up only to find him lying unresponsive. He immediately alerted the police. The responding officers found a cell phone under the victim’s body. The device was still connected to the electric socket. The officers then noticed that the victim’s hand was draped over the plug of the electric socket and that his lips were pale. Police believe the teen, identified as Suthee, was electrocuted to death though he wasn’t using the phone.

Meanwhile, the victim’s uncle said though he heard the teen’s loud cry the previous night, he did not check as he thought he was just playing a game on his phone.

Police officer Pol Maj Withoon Phaphonngam asked parents to inform their children about the potential risks of using phones while they are on charge. The investigation was ongoing and the brand of the phone was not known.

In a similar incident in Thailand in May, a 22-year-old man was electrocuted to death while using his phone while it was on charge. The unnamed victim, who lived alone in an apartment, was expecting a visit from his relative. Upon arrival, the relative knocked on the door to no response. He then broke open the door and found the victim lying dead on the bed. The relative then noticed that the man was holding his phone in his hand which was plugged into the electric socket and that his fingers had “burst.”
