A 19-year-old in Duluth, Georgia, faces murder charges after he fatally shot his older brother at an apartment complex over the weekend due to an argument, police said in documents.

Christopher Robert Brooks was charged with murder for the death of his 26-year-old brother, Joshua Brooks, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The younger Brooks called 911 around noon Sunday and claimed he had shot someone who was trying to break into his apartment at the Northwood Lake Court complex, according to an incident report.

Witnesses of the incident directed responding officers to an apartment on the basement level, where authorities found Brooks kneeling over his brother with his hands on his abdomen and a gun on the ground a few feet away from them, the report said.

The 19-year-old told officers he had tossed his gun after dispatch had asked him to do it, police said. The teen obeyed officers' orders when asked to walk toward them with his hands up as one officer began rendering aid to Joshua, according to the report.

Medical personnel took Joshua to Northside Hospital in Lawrenceville. Police did not disclose where or when he had died.

Brooks told police he shot Joshua because the latter had a weapon. No weapons, however, were found on or near the older brother, according to the report.

Several witnesses told police there had been a verbal argument between the two siblings prior to the shooting, the report said. The witnesses did not see the fight, but they were able to recall hearing threats.

"I'll blast you, you tweaking!" Brooks was heard saying in an audio recording taken by a witness, according to the report. Joshua then responded to his brother's threat with "Do it" or "Shoot it."

The shooting had occurred after the brothers' verbal exchange, the report said.

The teen is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, citing online records.

A similar incident happened in the U.K. in June when a 25-year-old man was arrested after his younger brother was found dead with stab wounds.

William Campbell was charged with murder in connection to the death of his 24-year-old brother, Samuel Campbell, who was found suffering from stab wounds at a property in the Silksworth area of Sunderland, England, on July 18.

Emergency personnel had attempted to revive Samuel, but he died at the scene.

Police did not mention any motive for the alleged murder.
