A teenager in India allegedly kidnapped his six-year-old nephew, demanded ransom from the family and then killed the child.

Police in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh arrested the 14-year-old accused following which he admitted to the crime.

After abducting the six-year-old, the accused sent the family a ransom note demanding Rs 50 lakh ($67,980). Police began an investigation after a missing complaint was filed by the family of the victim.

Investigators suspected the teenager of the crime after his handwriting matched the ransom note, the New Indian Express reported. After being taken into custody, the accused was shifted to a juvenile shelter home.

The identity of the accused and the victim were not revealed. The cause of death of the victim also remains unclear.

The minor told authorities the victim's parents would call him a "thief" due to which he kidnapped his nephew in a fit of rage. He also said the victim's parents reprimanded him on several occasions.

Police said they were investigating the incident to confirm the exact motive behind the killing.

Last month, a 12-year-old Louisiana girl was taken into custody for killing her 6-month-old brother. Paramedics arrived at a home in Luling and found the baby unconscious. Further investigation revealed the child was killed by the girl. The reason behind the killing and the cause of death were not revealed.

In another incident, a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot his 8-year-old brother while playing with a gun. The two children were in the house filming a video when the weapon accidentally discharged. Police arrived at the home in East St. Louis, Illinois, and rushed the boy to the hospital. He was later said to be in a stable condition.

This occurred just weeks after a father accidentally shot his 5-year-old girl. The man, who was not identified, was trying to secure the handgun in a safe when it accidentally discharged, and the bullet hit the victim's arm. The girl’s mother and two other children were at the residence when the incident took place. The girl was rushed to a hospital and was said to have recovered.
