A car industry consultant website has named Tesla’s Model 3 as the best electric vehicle of 2019.

Car advisory site Edmunds revealed its selection for best electric car of 2019, and several other categories, on Wednesday. Edmunds’ choice was reflected in its review, highlighting the features to price the Model 3 offered to anyone wanting to make the jump to electric.

The pros Edmunds listed include:

  • Tesla quality at a low price
  • Performance and handling
  • More technological advancements
  • Excellent for long-distance driving

“When it was first announced in 2016, the Tesla Model 3 made headlines with a trio of talking points: 1) 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds! 2) A range of 220 miles! 3) And all for the low, low price of $35,000!,” Edmunds’ review said. “While this low-cost Model 3 didn't fully materialize until this year (and even then deducts incentives from the purchase price), we're still hugely impressed. Aside from a few ergonomic issues, the 2019 Tesla Model 3 is one of the best electric vehicles on sale today.”

However, Edmunds made it clear the car wasn’t perfect with its cons, which included: "touchscreen can be a distraction to drivers" and a "lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto."

“Because almost all of the Model 3's controls are tied to it, you have to divert your attention from the road to do something as simple as adjusting the wiper speed,” Edmunds’ review said of the touchscreen. “At the same time, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, or even a Tesla-developed browsing solution for your phone, are not available. Bluetooth streaming audio from your phone is the only way to go, but using your phone while driving means a ticket in states that ban phone use while driving — not to mention it's an additional distracted-driving hazard.”

Other best of 2019 from Edmunds include the Honda Accord as the best midsize sedan, the Ram 1500 as the best large pick-up truck, and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class as the best luxury convertible.
