Multiple media reports claim that luxury electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is looking at various locations in Germany for its next Gigafactory, which would manufacture Tesla cars.

Local media in Germany's most populated state, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), have reported that Tesla is doing inspections for a possible factory in the area.

NRW isn't the only part of the country that Tesla has an interest in.

Earlier this week, media in the state of Lower Saxony, which is located north of North Rhine-Westphalia, claimed that the company would possibly build its Gigafactory there. German State Minister of Economic Affairs in Lower Saxony Bernd Althusmann said that "Lower Saxony is one of the world's top regions of the automotive industry" and that the state is a "good location within the European transport network" with good access to ports.

Earlier this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the U.S.-based company would likely expand to Germany, given its prime central location in Europe. The company already has final assembly plants in the Netherlands, which also function as its European headquarters.

Multiple European countries want the Tesla Gigafactory on their territory, as it would boost their economies. In the past, Tesla has considered Prague, Czech Republic, and Portugal as potential locations for the facility.

Tesla is currently building Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, making it the first wholly-owned foreign car factory in China. The factory is slated to produce Tesla vehicles by the end of the year.

Tesla's Gigafactory 1 is in Nevada, with its Gigafactory 2 located in upstate New York.

Although Tesla continues to not earn a profit, new factories and manufacturing could be a positive sign for the company.
