KEY POINTS

  • The Vampire Counts are a rush-oriented faction with strong and fast-moving units
  • Their armies are mostly composed of undead soldiers and monsters
  • Vampire armies have limited artillery options and no ranged units

The vampire lords that rule the Empire’s eastern fringes offer a fun playstyle for players who love diving into the thick of things. With a large host of undead creatures and intimidating monsters, the Vampire Counts can quickly charge into battle to destroy the enemy’s formations while disrupting any movements or magic that might come their way.

Here’s a quick guide on the Vampire Count units in “Total War: Warhammer 2” and a general-purpose guide on how to use them correctly.

Vampire Counts Strengths and Weaknesses

As a rush faction, the Vampire Counts rely on strength and speed to overwhelm the enemy forces before they succumb to their drawbacks. Most of a vampire army’s killing power lies on their elite cavalry units and monsters while expendable zombies and skeletons hold the main battle lines.

Their main weaknesses are their lack of any real ranged units and the low Leadership stat across most units. Instead of routing or shattering, vampires go into a crumbling or disintegrating state when their morale is drained, causing them to gradually lose HP until the entire unit dies. This weakness can be somewhat countered with Regeneration effects from lords or innate unit properties.

What’s unique about the Vampire Counts is that all of their units can cause Fear or Terrify, which is great against frontline units with low-leadership like Bretonnian Men-At-Arms and Empire troops.

Vampire Army Overview

A typical army is made up of a frontline of zombies and skeletons with a few Grave Guard units sprinkled between in the middle and a few Crypt Ghouls and Crypt Horrors in the back or the flanks.

Ghouls and horrors are powerful enough to decimate a frontline when they attack from the sides or the back, but larger monsters like Varghulfs, Vargheists and Terrorgheists can make even quicker work of enemies. Other shock units like Cairn Wraiths, Hexwraiths, Blood Knights and Black Knights can have the same result as a monster charge when used properly. Flying monsters like bats and gheists can be used to attack wall defenders in siege battles or harass skirmishers and artillery units.

Lastly, it’s important to know how Vampire Lords and other heroes work on the battlefield. Every hero can cast powerful spells that help shatter the enemy or keep the frontline undead fighting.
