KEY POINTS

  • Kai Havertz joining team with good long-term plans
  • Champions League not the only factor for Kai Havertz transfer decision
  • Bayern Leverkusen just wants Havertz to honor his commitment while at BayArena

Kai Havertz is one of the players on everyone's watch and there is the growing belief he will end up at Stamford Bridge. Further strengthening that move is that the 21-year-old player would not mind joining Chelsea FC even if they don't make it to the Champions League.

It appears that Havertz is looking beyond what the Blues are capable of right now. Chelsea is in third place in the table and only a point ahead of Leicester City. According to BBC, Havertz prefers to look at long-term plans. So while he wants to play in Europe's elite competition, the German has other factors that will convince him to make the switch.

But for now, it seems Havertz will have to honor his commitment with Bayern Leverkusen. They still have Europa League games to play. That includes a match against the Rangers on Aug. 6, the second-leg of their last-16 tie.

"As of now, he is a player of ours. We have our ideas, we know what he can do. I personally hope that he stays one more year," Sporting director Rudi Voller said.

That is perhaps the best Die Werkself can hope for now. Bayer Leverkusen seems to have accepted the fact that Havertz will be leaving BayArena and have no plans of preventing the German from leaving. All they want is to finish the season and get their asking fee from teams interested in the 21-year-old midfielder. The club is asking roughly close to $113 million for Havertz.

Havertz has two years left in his current deal. He has scored 17 times in 43 appearances for Leverkusen this season. Seven of those goals came in the nine games he has played for the club since the football restart.

A Havertz coming to Stamford Bridge further bolsters Chelsea next season. They have already acquired Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech to shore up their offensive sets. Havertz can complement the mix since he can also play forward.

The only other teams pursuing Havertz are Manchester United and Bayern Munich. However, the Red Devils are also dealing with financial distress. Bayern Munich is also in the same situation, admitting they cannot afford the German football player.
