KEY POINTS

  • Bayer Leverkusen is asking $88 million for Kai Havertz
  • Chelsea will start talks with Die Werkself for the 21-year-old next week, with Chelsea technical advisor Petr Cech scheduled to fly to Germany
  • Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have reportedly also sent feelers for Havertz

Chelsea F.C. appears determined to land Kai Havetz, with reports saying that someone from the Blues side will be headed to Germany soon.

Bayer Leverkusen is aware that Chelsea and other teams are aggressively pursuing the German player. With that in mind, the club has set its asking price for Havertz at $88 million, Sky Sports reported.

Havertz has two years remaining in his current deal, whose original value is at $114 million. Bayer reportedly is willing to settle for $88 million, something that comes with performance-related add-ons.

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea technical advisor Petr Cech will fly to Germany after the Premier League season on Sunday. He will hold talks with the German club side regarding a possible deal for the 21-year-old forward.

Havertz is reportedly interested in moving to Stamford Bridge, which has aggressively been adding new blood to the mix. So far, Blues coach Frank Lampard has already secured Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech for next season. Havertz is seen as a good complement, especially if Willian Borges da Silva will opt to move out once his contract ends.

Chelsea is not the only team interested in getting Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen. Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have sent feelers but are wary of the asking fee for the German player. Manchester United is another club linked to Havertz but is prioritizing Jadon Sancho.

The interest in Havertz is understandable. He is the first Bundesliga player to reach 35 goals before turning 21 last month. So far, he has accounted for eight goals in his last 12 appearances, aside from having four assists.

Havertz has also been compared to other known players like Mesut Ozil, Michael Ballack and Toni Kroos. His ability to do practically anything is what raised interest among teams.

In a previous report, it was mentioned how the Champions League could further bolster the chances of the Blues. However, Havertz seems to be looking at the bigger picture.

For the 21-year-old, he prefers to look at the long-term goals of Chelsea rather than what he can immediately be part of. Hence, playing alongside Werner and Ziyech could be another factor that has raised his level of interest. Aside from that, Lampard has other players in mind, which makes Chelsea a team to watch moving forward.
