Katrina Pierson, Senior Advisor to President Donald Trump tweeted Thursday, demanding answers from late Senator John McCain (R-AZ), regarding the Trump–Russia dossier, which led Twitter users to come up with innovative memes to mock her ignorance.

“Since everyone is just now realizing his staffers role in the #RussiaHoax We have been asking questions! John McCain Still Refuses to Answer Questions About His Role in the Dossier,” Pierson tweeted, linking an old article from last year from her website which made similar accusations against the then-alive senator.

Social media users, who unlike Pierson were aware of McCain’s death on Aug. 25, flooded her comments section with a stream of hilarious posts and memes. “I just spoke to him and if you stand in the middle of the interstate in dark clothes he will meet here there momentarily,” a user wrote, while another tweeted: “I have a ouija board! I’ll ask him.”

Here are a few other reactions:

The article linked by Pierson dated back to Nov 2017, and quoted comments from McCain explaining why he had handed over the dossier to the FBI.

“Late last year, I received sensitive information that has since been made public. Upon examination of the contents, and unable to make a judgment about their accuracy, I delivered the information to the Director of the FBI. That has been the extent of my contact with the FBI or any other government agency regarding this issue,” McCain told reporters in January last year as questions arose about his role in spreading the document that allegedly detailed Russian’s blackmail plot against Trump.

Beyond this statement, McCain did not respond to requests for information on how he first obtained the dossier or whether he was aware claims that the dossier was paid for by the Democratic National Convention and former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Trump and McCain shared a bitter relationship despite being from same political party, which became all the more apparent immediately after the latter’s death. While the white House wanted to put out a statement that touted McCain’s heroism as a decorated Vietnam War veteran and praised his senatorial feats, the idea was nixed by POTUS.

Instead, Trump put out a short tweet that had no mentions of the senator’s life achievements. “My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!” Trump wrote.

The president’s reaction was condemned by Mark Corallo, a former spokesman for Trump’s legal team and a longtime Republican strategist. “It’s atrocious,” Corallo told the Washington Post. “At a time like this, you would expect more of an American president when you’re talking about the passing of a true American hero.”
