The Undertaker – real name Mark Callaway - has not been in inside a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) ring since his appearance at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia in November when he lost a tag team match alongside Kane to the team of Shawn Michaels and Triple H. Recent reports suggested he had retired from the WWE, but those claims were dispelled by PW Insider’s Mike Johnson.

Callaway is certainly in the final part of his wrestling career and with him not being a regular part of the WWE, he has begun taking bookings not related to the promotion. He has also removed any trace of his alliance with the WWE on his social media, which is what started the retirement speculation in the first place.

The Undertaker has agreed to be part of the Starrcast, a wrestling convention organized by Conrad Thompson which will take place in Las Vegas one day before All Elite Wrestling (AEW) first major show, Double or Nothing. The likes of Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks are expected to attend Starrcast, which has not gone down well with WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

The chairman of the world’s most popular pro-wrestling entertainment promotion was said to be unhappy with the Undertaker for agreeing to participate in an event that would involve athletes from WWE’s newest rival in the wrestling entertainment scene. AEW has been trying to usurp WWE in the battle for free agent wrestlers and has thus far bagged Jericho and Kenny Omega.

The new promotion, backed by billionaire Shahid Khan and son Tony, is also said to be targeting a number of WWE stars reaching the end of their contracts. And McMahon was keen to maintain WWE’s supremacy over the rest of the promotions.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter, via Sportskeeda, reported WWE was now making a big push to involve the Undertaker in a match at WrestleMania. The reason for the sudden plan was reportedly due to his appearance at Starrcast. WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross confirmed the report by saying he heard of the discontent in the WWE front office following the news of Undertaker appearing in Thompson’s Starrcast convention.

“I heard it through the grapevine that The Undertaker’s decision to appear at Starrcast for Conrad Thompson has not been a popular front office decision. They’re not happy in the front office, apparently," Ross said in the ‘Jim Ross Podcast.’

Meanwhile, the Undertaker was unlikely to be the only potential loss the WWE is facing, with Rikishi Fatu – the father of current SmackDown Live tag team champions the Usos — hinting his sons have nothing to prove and could be a success in the WWE or even elsewhere when they become free agents in April.

The WWE is said to have made it a priority to sign them to new deals before WrestleMania, but they were yet to reach an agreement. AEW would certainly be monitoring the situation as the Usos can give their new tag team division a massive boost.
