No. 1 Serena Williams, the WTA’s unstoppable force, doesn’t seem to have a single immovable object in her purview before the U.S. Open gets underway next week at Flushing Meadows in New York.

Having already sewed up the season’s first three slams, Williams seeks the Grand Slam and her fourth straight U.S. Open title and currently stands as an overwhelming 5/6 favorite according to the latest odds from online sportsbook Bovada.lv.

It’s a relatively stark jump from last month, when Williams was listed at 6/5 following her triumph at Wimbledon. Should she prove odds makers right, Williams will be the fourth woman to claim all four slams in a single calendar year in the Open Era and first to do so in 27 years.

Williams’ closest competitors are No. 20 Victoria Azarenka at 8/1, No. 3 Maria Sharapova at 9/1, and No. 2 Simona Halep at 12/1, but none have managed to topple the 33-year-old Williams this season. Only Halep’s come closest but she fell to Williams at the Cincinnati finals 6-3 7-6 (7-5) over the weekend.

Thus far, Williams is 48-2 in singles and owns five titles, upping her career mark to 69 total and her slam collection to 21 over the last nine months.

History and overall success at Flushing Meadows are also in Williams' favor. She hasn’t lost at the U.S. Open since the 2011 final to Australia’s Samantha Stosur. Since then, Williams has dropped Azarenka and No. 4 Caroline Wozniacki in the last three finals.

Williams’ incredible play has also come at the most clutch moments, as evidenced by her 15 consecutive finals victories, with her last loss coming at the hands of Azarenka in Cincinnati in 2013 and that match went the distance with Williams losing 2-6 6-2 7-6 (6).

There have been a couple of low points to Williams’ year, but none have put a slam in jeopardy. She pulled out of the second round of the Swedish Open due to an elbow injury last month, but bounced back with a semifinals run at the Rogers Cup two weeks ago.

Williams also fell to then-No. 5 Petra Kvitova in straight sets in the Madrid semfinals and followed up with a second-round exit in Rome, only to use those clay court disappointments to rev up for her third French Open crown.
