Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will meet a new couple in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7. Here, he is pictured in a scene from Season 6 of the CW drama. CW

Several characters left “The Vampire Diaries” last year, so it only makes sense that Season 7 will bring in a few more. With Elena (Nina Dobrev), Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) gone, the cast has a few openings, but the newbies aren’t replacing any of the veterans. In fact, they’ll bring elements to the show that haven’t been explored yet.

Two of the female characters will be in a relationship, which will mark the first time that the CW drama has had a lesbian couple regularly appear on the show. “The Vampire Diaries” hasn’t involved many LGBT characters in the past. While Luke (Chris Brochu) was gay, he was never in the spotlight on the show nor was he in any serious relationships. It looks like these women will change that. “The Vampire Diaries” will introduce vampires Nora and Mary Louise in the fall, TV Line reports.

However, the lovers might not be friends with the Mystic Falls gang. It doesn't seem like they are living off blood bags and animals. They have “murderous tendencies.” They kill humans, but it sounds like Nora might occasionally want to kill Mary Louise. She is sometimes too overbearing for quick-tempered Nora.

Keeping their relationship a secret probably adds to the stress in their relationship. Only their inner circle knows that they’re together. Having been together for more than a century, Nora and Mary-Louise started out having to hide their relationship because lesbians weren't accepted when they first got together. It isn’t clear if they’re still living in the past or if they just want to hide their soft side from their enemies.

So who are the couple’s adversaries? The description doesn’t make it clear. Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) probably won’t be happy about their murderous ways, but Damon (Ian Somerhalder) might be into it.

Executive producer Julie Plec teased that his character is going back to a dark place this year. “He now has more freedom to kind of be messy with his choices,” Plec explained last month at ATX Festival. “I think you’ll see a darker Damon with the sort of wisdom of his experience, but a freedom to act out as he may feel like he needs to.” Fans will have to tune in to Season 7 to see how Damon befriends the new characters.
