President Joe Biden on Tuesday will deliver his first State of the Union address.

There will be no shortage of issues for Biden to address. After a tumultuous first year in office, Biden is still wrangling with a series of crises at home and abroad. Biden entered office amid a global health crisis from COVID-19 and uncertainty surrounding the economy. In recent days, the world has been rocked by Russian military aggression in Ukraine.

Here is some background on Biden's address to the nation.

What Time Does The State Of The Union Start And Where Can It Be Seen?

Every major news network, from Fox News to CNN to ABC, will be carrying the address when it airs at 9 p.m. ET.

C-SPAN regularly carries a live stream of the State of the Union. The White House will also show the State of the Union live on its YouTube channel.

Several of the main networks also have live streaming services on apps like CNNGo or CBS News.

What Issues Will Biden Discuss?

Biden assumed office in the aftermath of the Capitol Riot on Jan. 6, 2021, and amid the pandemic’s second year. With the war in Ukraine and rising inflation, Biden’s job has only grown progressively more complicated.

Biden will likely focus his address around four main themes: the fight against the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, his plans to steward the economy, and his administration's accomplishments. Also, he is expected to reference his first pick to the Supreme Court, Ketanji Brown Jackson.

With many medical experts noting that the pandemic may be coming to an end, Biden will likely touch on how the country will move forward. More than 76% of Americans have received at least one COVID vaccine dose.

Biden is also expected to cite his support for Ukraine and embattled President Voldomyr Zelensky. Congress has sought to oust Russia from the U.N. Security Council.

On the economy, Biden should address how he plans to contain soaring levels of inflation. He may also note that there was record job growth in 2021.

Who Will Lead The Republican Response?

As in past State of the Union addresses, the party that is not in the White House gets the opportunity to publicly comment after the speech.

The Republican Party has selected Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds to deliver the response. Republicans reportedly called on Reynolds because of her leadership skills, and have cited Iowa's response to the pandemic and Reynolds' criticism of critical race theory.

The tone of Reynolds' speech could touch on Republicans' election strategy. As the midterm elections loom, Republicans remain split on whether to support or distance themselves from former President Donald Trump.

Will There Be A Progressive Response?

In a break from tradition, there will be a response from a member of the White House's party. After Biden's speech, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., will speak on behalf of the left-wing Working Families Party.
