The New York Police Department detained the Staten Island ShopRite employee who slapped former New York City Mayor and Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Sunday.

Police also charged the employee, Daniel Gill, 39, with second-degree assault of a person over the age of 65. The employee slapped Giuliani, 78, in the back during a campaign event for his son, Andrew Giuliani.

Andrew Giuliani, R-N.Y., will be up for election in Tuesday's primary for New York's governor. He is running against Rob Astorino, Harry Wilson, and Lee Zeldin.

According to the New York Post, the former mayor nearly fell down from the blow but did not require medical attention. The man also reportedly called Giuliani a "scumbag."

Rudy Giuliani alleged that the worker referenced abortion rights, which were recently overturned by the Supreme Court on Friday, and said: "You’re going to kill women."

Rudy Giuliani recounted the incident in an interview, where he said, “all of a sudden I feel a shot on my back — like somebody shot me.”

A video released of the incident appears to show a more minor incident. The video doesn't support claims that anyone was seriously hurt in the incident.

Rudy Giuliani told Steven Bannon's podcast that he was still in pain from the attack. "The guy hit me really hard, knocked me forward two or three steps," Rudy Giuliani said.

"The simple fact is they are violent and basically we are not. That's why Jan. 6 is such an aberration," Rudy Giuliani said, in reference to what he claims is the difference liberals between and conservatives.
