A 3-month-old baby was allegedly kidnapped from a California apartment while his grandmother was fetching groceries from her car. San Jose police released a video of a male suspect walking away with the child.

The search for the infant began Monday after the grandmother reported the child missing at around 1 p.m. from the residence on Elm Street, police said.

The missing baby was identified as Brandon Alexis Cuellar, who is called Alexis by his family members. The baby was in the care of the grandmother while his mother was at work on the day of the kidnapping, according to CBS San Francisco.

The grandmother told cops that she took the infant inside the apartment after a grocery-shopping trip. While the baby was inside, the grandmother went to her car to retrieve the groceries and returned to discover that the baby was no longer in the apartment.

"In that short amount of time, someone entered the apartment ... and left with the baby," San Jose police Sgt. Christian Camarillo said during a press briefing, NBC Bay Area reported.

San Jose police units swarmed the area by early Monday evening. FBI investigators also joined the police's search for the child.

Police released images and a video of the male suspect, who allegedly entered the family’s residence and left with the baby. The video appeared to show the child in a carrier with a blanket covering him.

The family did not recognize the man from the released footage, police said.

The male suspect was described as a “dark” Hispanic male, wearing black pants, a dark blue shirt and grey shoes at the time of the kidnapping. Police also said the suspect has short hair and was captured in the video wearing a mask and a grey baseball hat.

Brandon was wearing a white long-sleeved onesie with dinosaurs and was placed inside a black-colored carrier with a white blanket at the time of his kidnapping, police said.

Brandon’s mother is working with police officers to find the missing child while the baby’s father is incarcerated and “out of the picture,” Camarillo said at the press briefing. He also added that cops plan on speaking to the father soon.

“Right now, we have every available resource not only out in the field, but here at the police department working this case,” Camarillo added.

Officials urged anyone with information on the case to inform authorities.

As family members gathered outside the residence, one man identified himself as the child's uncle and told NBC Bay Area that they feel helpless for not having any more information about Brandon.
