Police in Texas have released footage of a daring rescue to save a family from drowning during Tropical Storm Imelda.

The footage belonged to the Conroe Police Department, which joined other agencies in rescue efforts as Imelda hammered the state’s coast last month. A family was trapped in a car after it stalled in high waters and strong currents. Police arrived as the car was submerging and needed to act quickly.

The rescue was caught on the body cam of one of the officers at the scene.

Responding officers began working their way through waist high water, gripping each other to form a human chain to keep from being swept away by the current and began working to free the family trapped in the car.

A young boy is seen being removed first from the back seat with officers passing him down to get him out of the flood waters. Officers repeated the process with a young girl also in the back seat before getting the driver to safety.

Tropical Storm Imelda was the ninth named storm to form in the 2019 Atlantic storm season that ripped through the Gulf of Mexico Sept. 17-21. Conroe was among the towns battling flash floods triggered by the storm. Officials in Texas confirmed the storm’s death toll at five.
