Of all the events in the “Vikings,” there is one moment that has cast it’s shadow on everything that has happened since, and it is expected to continue to shape things in Season 6 as well. In a recent interview, director Ciaran Donnelly called this the “watershed” moment of the show and shared details about how that scene was filmed.

The following article contains spoilers from episodes that have already aired in the “Vikings” TV series.

It has been a while since Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) died on the show. That death sent shockwaves on the show that can still be felt. The character’s death scene was so powerful that it was featured again in the form of Lagertha’s (Katheryn Winnick) vision.

In a recent interview with Metro, Donnelly said that the death scene was “hugely emotional” for Fimmel. The scene involved Fimmel locked in a cage, hanging 40 feet up in the air with a pit of snakes below him.

Knowing that this was a very emotional scene for the actor, as it was his death scene, the director tried to bring Fimmel down to take a break from the emotionally exhausting filming. The actor, however, chose to stay locked in that cage until the scene was done, and the hundreds of extras who were there on the set cheered him on.

The snakes in the pit were apparently real, but Fimmel being an Aussie didn’t mind being thrown in it. There was no physical danger as the snakes were not poisonous. The only digital additions in this scene were that of snakes biting Ragnar.

With the death of Ragnar, his sons are fighting for his legacy on the show in “Vikings” Season 6. Screen Rant recently ranked the warriors on the show to determine who is the most vicious fighter. Rollo (Clive Standen) has emerged at the top, followed by Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig).

The official Twitter page of the show captured the theme of the next season for Bjorn. His goal in life now is to take Kattegat back from his brother Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen), but will he get a chance to win the throne?

“Vikings” Season 6 is set to air sometime later this year. The producers have yet to announce an exact release date.
