Robert Kirkman, creator of "The Walking Dead," shocked fans when he announced that issue #193 would be the ultimate conclusion to the series. This caught followers of the zombie-filled universe off guard as the fate of many characters, including Negan, remained officially untold. However, thanks to a letter from Kirkman himself, we now know the baseball-swinging villain's ultimate outcome in the comics.

At the end of the final issue, the author included a long letter directly to fans to thank them for their continuous support over the years and to explain why he chose to bring the story to a close.

"I'll say it again, I love (loved... oh god, I'm not ready for past tense) writing this series. I really don't want it to end. In fact, I've been... kind of unsettled since I wrote the script for this issue. The whole thing just feels... weird," he wrote in the letter, according to Newsarama.

"I'm upset, too. I'm going to miss it as much as you will, if not more so. It breaks my heart that I had to end it, and we have to move on... but I just love this world too much to stretch things out until it doesn't live up to what I want it to be," he said.

Continuing, he added, as reported by ComicBook.com, "I got to tell my story exactly how I wanted to, for 193 issues, and end it on my terms, with no interface at all along the way... at any point."

In the very last line, he wrote, "P.S. Negan Lives," which certainly gave readers some closure to the mystery since the final issue reportedly does very little in terms of explaining his storyline.

According to Cinema Blend, the final issue takes place entirely in the timeline's future but refrains from focusing on Negan. Instead, the last adventure refocuses the lens to look at Carl, who is now an adult.

Negan's vague conclusion in the comics will likely have little to do with his story arc on the ongoing television iteration as the two do not directly coincide, which is a fortunate thing for fans to note as Rick's fate in the comic series will likely play out quite differently on the AMC show.

Season 10 of "The Walking Dead" is expected to premiere in October.
