Ryanair passengers on a flight from Stansted Airport, London, to Fuerteventura, Spain, broke into loud applause, Monday, after a drunk, unruly woman and her partner were removed from the plane by security personnel.

The flight, which departed from London at 6:20 a.m. local time (2:20 a.m. EDT), was relatively uneventful till 20 minutes of being up in the air. At that point, one of the passengers asked a woman sitting in front to calm down. The woman, who was reportedly drunk, started to argue with the passenger. When things got heated, a flight attendant approached the scene and asked the passenger sitting next to the woman to relocate, considering the person's safety.

Rahma Salmin, 22, who was present on the flight at the time and witnessed the entire incident, told Mail Online that as the plane started to descend, the woman started screaming and her partner started making nonsensical comments.

“There was a drunk couple on our flight from Stansted Airport to Fuerteventura,” Salmin said. “I was sleeping and woke up to the woman screaming. She was drunk and not listening to the air hostess so another passenger nearby asked her to calm down and this escalated to an argument. I was sitting six rows back. The noise from her went on for a really long time and one point the person with her turned to the passenger trying to calm the situation down and said, ‘Let’s take it outside.’ The passenger said, ‘What do you mean? We’re in the air. How is that possible?’”

As the plane prepared for landing, the woman continued her aggressive streak, even trying to start a physical fight with a passenger. Spanish civil guards entered the plane once it landed at the airport and tried to escort the drunk woman and her partner out of the cabin. A video of the incident showed the woman refusing to leave the aircraft. As a result, the guards grabbed her arms and forcibly removed her from the plane.

"I don't need an ambulance," the woman was heard yelling at the guards. As the woman was being taken out, the rest of the passengers cheered, whistled, and clapped loudly.

“She was such a headache,” Salmin said. “It was a bit funny at first but then I was worried she might get physical. They have a very serious word with her partner but I don't know what happened to him after that. We saw the woman sitting outside in the airport crying.”

A Ryanair spokesperson issued the following statement about the incident: “The crew of this flight from London Stansted to Fuerteventura requested police assistance upon arrival after a passenger became disruptive in-flight. The aircraft landed normally and police removed and detained the individual. We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behavior at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police.”

As a result of the woman’s behavior, the flight was delayed by 20 minutes.
