A recent video shows a Metropolitan Transportation Authority police officer repeatedly punching a suspect in the face.

The incident occurred a little before midnight Tuesday outside the Macy's Department Store on West 34th Street in New York City, according to reports.

In the video captured by a bystander who later uploaded it on YouTube, the unidentified man is seen walking around the area wearing a blue shirt and khaki shorts when two police officers grab him and push him onto the ground. They then pull his hands in an attempt to handcuff him while the man can be seen fighting them off.

They struggle for sometime after which one of the officers punches the man several times in the face.

The man can be heard screaming, “Somebody help me! Please! Help! Mom!” as he is being hit and even tries to shield his face. However, the other officer pulls his hands away and handcuffs him. The police then pick him up from the ground and make a move to leave when the video ends.

According to New York Daily News’ unnamed sources from law enforcement, the man was under the influence of the drug LSD and made an attempt to get in to a vehicle that did not belong to him. The owner of the car then pulled him out and called over the MTA police who tried to question him. At that point he reportedly became violent and they had to bring him down, according to ABC News.

After the man was taken into custody, an emergency medical services ambulance was called and he was taken to the Bellevue Hospital. The ABC report also said the MTA responded to the incident instead of the New York Police Department because of its proximity to Pennsylvania Station.

The bystander who shot the video told the Daily News: “We were coming back from a concert in Long Island and we were exiting the station when we saw the drunk guy. At first we thought it was a normal fight but then we realized cops were involved so we started filming.”

The video was posted by the man on the YouTube channel "34thSt Witness" and the name of the video reads "NYPD takes Trump's advice - repeatedly punch unarmed guy in face." The name is a reference to President Donald Trump’s speech in which he told police not to be "nice" to suspects.

Addressing an audience in Long Island, New York five days ago, he said about police interactions with suspects and criminals: "When you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head you know, the way you put their hand over [their head]. Like, 'Don’t hit their head and they’ve just killed somebody, don’t hit their head.' I said, 'You can take the hand away, OK?'"

However, many police departments have since condemned Trump’s remarks.

The bystander meanwhile, who filmed the video, said: “I have friends that are officers, but some of these guys take what Trump said last week to heart — that it’s OK to rough people up.”
