Doug 600 lb Life
At more than 660 pounds, "My 600-Lb Life" star Doug Armstrong cannot help his wife, Ashley, with their three children. TLC

The new episode of the TLC reality show “My 600-lb Life” features Doug Armstrong, father-of-three who cannot kick his habit to food. Unable to help around the house and with his children, Doug’s marriage to his wife, Amy, is in danger.

“Doug's eating habits are shocking,” his wife says in a promo for Wednesday’s episode. “He has a beautiful mind and a beautiful spirit, but he's trapped in his body.”

Doug stands 6 feet 6 inches and weighs more than 660 pounds. The Wichita Falls, Texas, resident is unable to conquer his obesity and he is worried about his relationship. “I know that Ashley’s getting to a breaking point and she can’t do this much longer,” he says in an exclusive preview for the show, which was obtained Wednesday by Life & Style Magazine. “She’s practically raising our family on her own. I should be able to help raise the kids and not have my wife do all of it.”

He also worries about how his weight will affect his relationship with his toddler and twin babies. “If I don’t make these changes that I need to make, what kind of relationship am I gonna have with my children?” Doug says. “I’ve gotta do something so I can be around for these kids. I have to change now.”

Ashley can relate to Doug’s battle because she’s been in a similar situation. She weighed over 300 pounds before undergoing gastric bypass surgery eight years ago. Ashley eventually dropped down to 175 pounds, but she then put on 60 pounds. “I know how hard it is to lose weight and I completely understand where Doug is and how he has gotten to this point because of where I’ve been,” she says.

Ashley doesn’t blame Doug for her weight gain. “Instead of being the motivation for him to eat better, I have, in turn, started eating worse,” she says. “I never expected to be this size ever again. I worked hard and a long time to get there. And I wanted to see that change in Doug too. But I knew that Doug had to want it for himself.”

Don’t miss Season 5 of “My 600-lb Life” when it airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on TLC.
